In a dream I looked in the mirror, crumbling teeth and glow-worms dangling from my flesh. This mirror became a threshold through which I meet a girl, preparing her horse for a big adventure. What if, like Narcissus, we instead stay gazing at the ponds edge, in reflections of self?

This presentation examines states of soul in a digital world, a world where neoliberal capitalism, through social media, teases out then preys on flows of desires and soul’s appetite for expression, leaving people with shallow colonised psyches, drained of life force in a horror vacui and a hell of mirrors without difference.

For the initial live performance at VIPAW the artist engaged in continuous headbanging in a blackened out room until she could no longer go on. The performance ran for approximately one hour.

Silent Headbanging in the Desert is a live performance and performance-for-video series exploring the intertwined crises of the self and the environment, tracing the soul's struggle for survival on both personal and ecological levels.

Over three days, three artists lived and worked continuously within the exhibition space, structuring the work around three-minute intervals. Across a possible 1,480 cycles, ephemeral moments were observed and documented.

These observations were handwritten onto glass test tubes as meltwater from blocks of ice was simultaneously collected within them.

The resulting archive held the inseparable relationship between human presence and ecological change.

And I thought of Godard, particularly Alphaville: the way Fox played with the theatrical form, to create something that was partially ironic, partially deeply felt and partially just fun, reminded me a lot of Godard’s approach to cinema. I even thought of Kundera’s Unbearable Lightness of Being, the swimming pool nightmares of visibility and responsibility.’

Waterproof is a large-scale live art work staged in and around the former women's pool at Melbourne City Baths. Drawing on the writings of Samuel Beckett and Sylvia Plath, Jungian psychology, and Japanese ritual practices, the work transforms the pool into a liminal space where four performers embody archetypal aspects of a single psyche as they confront a mysterious force emerging from the water, a manifestation of the unconscious.

Through choreography, live performance, video, sound, and installation, Waterproof unfolds as a dream-like cycle of self-destruction, betrayal, violence, care, and moments of fragile synchronicity.
